A Showcase of Ireland’s Space Activities

Welcome to Case for Space Ireland, a showcase off all of Ireland’s space related activities; from building our first satellite to writing our space policy and educational space activities to the many companies involved in the sector, Ireland has a deep and personal relationship with space that has been going on for centuries and looks to continue for many more.

Here you can find info on everything space related in Ireland, lists of companies, institutions, educational and public space related groups. You can see they are spread out all over Ireland below. If your organisation is not listed, then get in touch via the contact form above.

Here are some of the exciting things happening in the Irish space world:

DCU and ESA launch new IoT accelerator to boost Irish spacetech

DCU and the ESA have teamed up to create a new maker space for IoT developers, for creating and rapidly prototyping satellite communications technology.

The pair have identified three areas of space communications that they hope will be explored by participants, including developing sensors to aid in search-and-rescue operations, and monitoring critical infrastructure.

EIRSAT-1: Ireland’s First Satellite:

A group of students, professors and industry experts at UCD are busy creating Ireland’s first satellite, set to fly with the European Space Agency in the coming years. On board, their Gamma-ray Module (GMOD) will detect gamma-ray bursts from cosmic and atmospheric phenomena while their Enbio MODule (EMOD) will look at how various protective coatings will react in space.

Their work will help increase the expertise of satellite design and operation capabilities available in Ireland. Check out their site for more info.

Space Week Ireland, Oct 4 – 10th 2018:

Students, families, community groups and members of the public will come together with the space community, professional astrophysicists, the broader educational community, artists, hobby astronomers and space scientists to use the powers of creativity, critical thinking, science, technology, engineering and maths to focus on the wonders and realities of the Universe around us.

Running October 4th through 10th 2018, you are sure to find something near you.

National Space Strategy for Enterprise, 2019 – 2025

The Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation and Enterprise Ireland are developing a Space Strategy for Enterprise to support Ireland’s key strategic objective with respect to space: to develop a strong and sustainable space industry in Ireland and to optimise and grow the economic return from Ireland’s participation in European space programmes and in the expanding global commercial space market.

The strategy will outline how Ireland can seize key opportunities and address crucial challenges within the evolving global commercial space market to achieve its key strategic objective.
